How to read this page
At the top is what has just arrived in the App Store with version 1.1. Below that, the one thing I’m tackling next, and the items that follow. Everything else is a list in no particular order: ideas and requests I know I want to build, but not yet in which order.
There is one exception: in a reply to an App Store review I promised that Etappe on the Mac is coming soon, without a fixed place in the order. I’m not naming a date for that either.

In the app since version 1.1
In the App Store since September 17, 2026, for everyone who updates Etappe.
Country data for Austria and Switzerland
If you set Austria or Switzerland as your home country, you get your own embassies and emergency numbers and the travel advice of the Austrian Foreign Ministry or the Swiss FDFA, instead of the German mission and the Federal Foreign Office. Anything you changed in the country data yourself is kept.
Search for places instead of typing coordinates
Type a place or address, tap a suggestion from Apple Maps, and name, address, and country are filled in for you. This works for activities, accommodations, journeys, and research items. Only this search needs internet; everything else stays offline.
Journeys with a GPX file and arrival in local time
A GPX file can now be imported for journeys too, not just for outdoor activities, with the real timestamps from the file instead of estimated values. When you carry a route over into your plan, the arrival is shown in local time including the time-zone offset.
Etappe in English and French
The app is available in English and French, covering the interface, the App Store listing, and the manual: Manual and Manuel. The entry and pet rules in the country data remain tailored to travelers from Europe.
Base currency of your choice, ECB rates at the tap of a button
Euros, francs, pounds, kroner: you choose your base currency yourself, and cost fields, budget, and status light calculate in it. Amounts in other currencies you enter with an exchange rate; the app fetches the European Central Bank’s reference rates when you tap “Refresh Rates”, never on its own and never at launch.
Any country as your home country
You choose your home country and home location from every country in the world, in the Getting started assistant or in Settings. Embassies, emergency numbers, and travel advice of their own exist for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland for now; everyone else sees the German perspective with a note and can adjust every field themselves.
Duplicate a journey or create it as a return leg
Long-press a journey, and Etappe creates it again, or as a return leg with start and destination swapped and the waypoints mirrored. Booking number and receipts stay with the original.
Etappe for German speakers all over Europe
The remaining home countries and neutral terms
Etappe is in the App Store worldwide. The app was built in Germany, and the bundled country data shows it. For Austria and Switzerland this has been taken care of since 1.1; the rest is still open:
- Embassies, emergency numbers, and travel advice of their own for Luxembourg, Belgium, and South Tyrol. Selectable as home countries since 1.1, they still see the German perspective with a note
- Neutral wording where the app currently uses German terms, such as the national ID card or the vehicle inspection (TÜV)
- Missing countries such as Liechtenstein, Malta, and the Western Balkans
Until then: every field of the country data can be edited in the app itself. Details and limitations are stated honestly in the FAQ.
The next steps
Etappe on the Mac
The same app on Macs with Apple silicon, the same iCloud sync: plan on the big screen, look things up on your iPhone on the road. This is coming soon, without a fixed place in the order, and I’m not naming a date.
Everything else on the list
No ranking, no schedule. Just the honest list of what I want to build.
Weather for every stop
Forecast for the next stages and, looking back, the weather for every journal entry, with Apple Weather, also as a layer on the trip map.
Share a trip as a file
Export a single trip and pass it on, with dates to fellow travelers, or as an anonymized template (“14 days in Scotland”) where the import only asks for the start date.
Splitting costs among travelers
Record for each expense who paid and for whom, and see at the end who still owes whom. A request from my own family.
Photo book export
Output journal, photos, and stages as a print-ready photo book. The data model is in place; the implementation comes at the very end of the list.
Update exchange rates automatically
Today you maintain the countries’ exchange rates yourself. In the future Etappe will fetch current rates, on request, without an account and without tracking.
Live Activity while recording
The running route recording as a Live Activity on the Lock Screen and as a widget: distance and duration at a glance.
Trip templates to download
Curated trips as signed templates on etappe.app, building on sharing a trip as a file.
Save places
Save parking garages, restaurants, and other places to a trip without them having to be an activity right away.
Dated notes in the calendar
A note with a date moves into the trip calendar when you turn it into a plan, and notes should also be possible outside the Sketch.
Extend packing lists
Templates for camping and groceries, plus icons for the items.
Travel dictionary
The most important words and phrases for your destination country right in the app, an idea from Etappe’s predecessor.
Apple Vision Pro
Etappe on Apple Vision Pro too, again the same app and the same iCloud sync. That’s planned; nothing more is settled yet.
What this page is not
Not a promise with a date. The order can change when user requests or bugs push something more important to the top. What has shipped is listed in the App Store under “What’s New” and disappears from this list.
