44. What’s next#
Etappe keeps growing. This chapter collects what is being considered — as an outlook, not a promise. There are no dates here, and none of it is guaranteed.
44.1 Weather in the journal and on the map#
Weather for the travel day, automatically: one idea is that Etappe determines the weather for date and place itself instead of asking you for it.
By hand, this already works today. The form of a journal entry has the section Weather with the Weather picker and the field Temperature (°C). The matching symbol then appears in the list, the detail view shows the line with category and degrees, and both go into the journal PDF (Journal).
There are eight categories to choose from:

44.2 Photo book export#
The share menu of a trip has the entry Photo book (in progress). The idea behind it: an output format that turns journal and photos into a book instead of a list — with pages you can give away or have printed.
What the share menu already offers today is described in Exports and printouts: Itinerary as PDF, Journal as PDF, Sketch as PDF and Events as calendar (.ics). For looking back with pictures, the journal PDF is the closest thing.
44.3 Sharing individual trips#
Passing a single trip on to fellow travelers without transferring your whole collection — as a file that joins the recipient’s own collection. Also conceivable is an anonymized version as a template: the same route, but without booking numbers, notes and prices, with day offsets instead of fixed dates.
For everyday use, a single document is usually enough today: the itinerary PDF, the journal PDF, the packing list as PDF or the .ics file, which lands in the recipient’s calendar. The export under Backup, on the other hand, is meant for you — as a backup and for moving to a new device (Backup).
44.4 More languages#
Etappe is available in German, English and French: all labels, notes and messages. Further languages are being considered.
Your own entries are unaffected: you write trip titles, notes and journal entries in whatever language your keyboard offers.
